What is Kinesiology

Kinesiology is the Biopsychosocial study of human movement. This field of study is very vast and includes more finite studies such as the chemical reactions that go inside an exercising body, up to more social aspects such as how cultural environments influence physical skill development. 

As a bachelor’s degree it provides an excellent foundation of knowledge to enter several other areas of study, or a graduate can choose to register with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists and further their practical experience within a more specific field, for example active rehabilitation or sports performance.

In practice, it is mainly used as a way of retraining poor movement partners by strengthening neural pathways through exercise. Your kinesiologist will help guide you through proper movement patterns and will show you optimal exercises to help strengthen and balance your body in order to prevent and/or recover from injury. 

What can I expect from my kinesiology session?

Expect to move during your kinesiology session!

Your kinesiologist will spend the first part of an initial assessment talking about injuries, lifestyle and your functional or fitness goals. We take time to listen to your needs and give you tips to work around your busy schedule. During your sessions, we will outline and provide you with a personalised exercise prescription plan to help keep you on track for your fitness or rehabilitation goals.

If you prefer to come in for regular sessions, you can choose to do personal training, where you will get regularly scheduled one to one training sessions.
